OUR PROCESS

SALMA. manufactures glass, mirror glass and porcelain clay rings and now also reworked vintage pieces. We also just started designing (in CAD and drawings) with a production for more sustainable pieces that won't break as early as glass.

The glass rings are created in an art glass called Bullseye and then we also use mirror glass. We saw, cut, paint and shape the glass ourselves. To burn glass together we use a technique called fusing and this is done in a special glass oven at 860°C.

The clay we use is porcelain clay and can be shaped into faces, circles or flowers, it’s only the imagination that sets limits. The clay is left as is or mixed with iron oxide, manganese oxide or chromium oxide to change color. After that, the clay dries for a day or so before it is burned in a first firing, a so-called sloppy firing in a clay oven at 960°C. When the first burn is done, we add glaze on the clay which gives a fine surface and is fired in the clay kiln once more at up to 1220°C. If the clay must be golden or silver, a special color is used which is activated in a third firing at 760°C.
